Danielle Marie Crocker-Buchler...
I spent much of my childhood in Colorado, at my Grandparent's cabin, flipping through fabric swatch books while hiding behind my Grandmother's giant quilting machine. My grandma was an entrepreneur. She owned a quilt shop in Leadville, Colorado. She gave me a sense of pride and creativity at a young age and helped me complete my first quilt when I was eight. You could say she is the reason I need to always have a 'project' in the works and she is certainly the one to blame for my fabric obsession.
However, she isn't the only guilty one. Growing up, I was always surrounded by people who heartened my imagination. I was always either outside exploring or inside making something. My days consisted of everything from looking for buried treasure to styling photo shoots in my mom's clothes. I also like to think the time spent with my grandfathers, in their garages, explains why I'm not one to shy away from a big messy project.
As I grew, I was always interested in recycling and saving animals. This lead me to incorporate these views with my love for sewing. I always preferred trying to make or fix my own items either out of materials I already had, thrift store gems I could modify or fabric my Grandmother was willing to part with.
I've never really changed. I still enjoy things that have a heart and products with meaning that don't create more waste. Seven years ago, in Arizona, I started a small apparel company in my mother's garage called Lealta Apparel. Lealta Apparel focused on sustainable printing and manufacturing and retailed on-line.
After moving to Brooklyn in 2010, I took a six-month break to focus my attention primarily on children's clothing. It was a great learning time and now I am able to see my creations in store fronts throughout Brooklyn. Pretty sweet!
Now, THERUNDMCB is the next step in creating quality sustainable goods that take the future into consideration.
